Stop Red Light Running in Cleveland Park
...and everywhere
Now with information on anti-speeding cameras
Cleveland Park is a quiet neighborhood in Washington, DC
I've created this web page to help get a red light camera at Connecticut and
Ordway, a well-traveled, dangerous intersection. But this website has
evolved into a general information site about red light and speeding cameras, so
read on.
It's almost impossible not to see somebody run the red light at Connecticut Avenue and Ordway Street, NW. On any given day at any given time you can watch drivers zip through the red with absolute disregard for any pedestrians or cars that are in the intersection. Sometimes it's just one car; sometimes it's several cars slicing through the red.
Connecticut and Ordway is too dangerous an intersection. It's time for a red light camera there. Right around this intersection is a movie theater, supermarket, post office, many restaurants, and other destinations frequented by pedestrians. There's simply too much pedestrian traffic for cars to be running the red all the time. We shouldn't have to risk our lives to cross the street.
In the United States, over 20 percent of all accidents are caused by drivers running red lights. Year after year, red light runners kill over 750 people, and result in 260,000 crashes. They cause an estimated 7 billion dollars in property damage, medical bills, lost productivity and insurance hikes. And unfortunately, red light running is on the increase.
Death by car is a preventable disease, and red light cameras can help cure this terrible disease.
Sincerely,
Bill Adler
