Book Proposal
Developing Visual Basic 4.0 Programs for the Internet with
ActiveX Controls
by Wayne S. Freeze
THE COMPETITION:
Since the ActiveX controls have been recently released in beta test form, there are not books available on this topic, however it would be naïve to expect that there are no other books being written on this topic. This book would be one of the first available books on the market that would discuss this issue, therefore, it should sell well to those programmers that like to learn about the new technology
There is a book scheduled to be released in May 1996, called Visual Basic Internet Programming, by Carl Franklin (ISBN: 0-471-13420-1). It will be published by John Wiley & Sons and is expected to retail for $39.95. It covers the topics like: adding Internet capabilities to Windows programs, producing Internet utilities or software applications, and using Visual Basic to create Internet database servers and write Common Gateway Interface (CGI) scripts. Since the summary did not mention the use of ActiveX controls, this book will either explain how to access the Internet using low level programming techniques or how to use third party Visual Basic controls, not Microsoft ActiveX controls, to access the Internet.
